Family Values Nostalgia for the 1950s is real and deserves to be taken seriously, but it usually shouldn 't be taken literally. (pg.33 of What we really miss about the 1950’s) Growing up in a two parent household who base their parenting abilities on what the Bible has to say, can relate a lot to being in the 1950s. It has a lot of the same values work hard, love unconditionally, and don 't sin. Today’s society with all the electronics that we have makes it very difficult to get tasks accomplished. My parents have stressed in all of us kids to work hard for what we want.…

In the U.S., the biggest changes in the family are in its structure and changing priorities. In the past century, and particularly in recent decades, the definition of the family has widened to be inclusive of a spectrum of family structures, not just nuclear or traditional families. Less people are getting married and the divorce rate has increased, as have single parent homes and cohabitation, while birth rates have decreased. Ideas about gender roles in families have also been challenged with the women’s rights movement and the legalization of same sex marriage. There has also been an increase in interracial and interreligious marriages.…

Family life has changed dramatically over the last century. The delay of marriage is one of the biggest changes that has occurred in American families. People are waiting until they have finished their education to marry, which has an impact on parenting when they become parents. Another significant change that has occurred in American families is the structure of a typical family, so much so that the typical family of a father, mother and 2.5 children has all but disappeared. The family structure can be the popular image of a mother, father and children or it can be a divorced mother or father and children or a mother or father and their partner and children.…

I also agree with the author’s point of view about how traditional family is mythological. The reason I agree with the her is that our society changes according to time. Also today society is all about privacy, unlike in the 1900s most people lived in a joint family and went everywhere with their family. Today we basically do what we want with or without our family. One way we can fix marriage problems is to have programs that teaches people on what and what not to say and do in a certain situation when you have a problem.…

Change is constantly happening all around us from technological advances to social changes like what a society deems as normal. In the last 60 years our country has been through a lot in a relatively a short period of time from ensuring all races have the same civil rights as everyone else to putting a man on the moon. I believe this country can do just about anything given enough time including changing a once concrete idea like what a family is. In the 1950s the ideal family was an extremely important concept which if it didn 't meet all the criteria you where in the minority and it wasn 't really a family to most. But it didn 't just change it evolved, the concept of a family didn 't just differ from what it once was without a reason…

Personal Bias Paper The definition of family is actually something we’ve discussed in numerous classes this semester. The conclusion we have come to is that there is no real definition of family. This is mostly due to the fact that everyone’s view of the perfect family is different. To me however, I would define family as being two or more people who love, support, and share similar values.…

These values are learned and passed down through each generation. However, with President Johnson’s signing into the law the various provisions on the “War on Poverty”, the law of unintended consequences disassembled the family unit for a welfare check. Instead of a bonded family unit; we now have single mothers raising basically “feral” children. It has been validated that the traditional family units (working parent(s) with children) who take an active interest in their children’s education and with regular religious attendance avoids generational poverty.…
