A Faith Statement Paper

Good Morning I am Levi Haen and this is my faith statement. When I was younger I never really knew why we went to church, I knew that we were learning about God and Jesus Christ but other than that it was just a bunch of singing and talking, my faith was weak. When I got older I started to listen more and more in church and things started to make more sense my faith was getting stronger, but I still had some questions and confusions about the deeper meaning behind the biblical stories and passages. The two major influences that have encouraged and expanded my faith came from youth gatherings and the bible itself. Going to Nashville, Tennessee and feeding the homeless was something that has stuck with me overtime. One thing I took away from

I went through my life as a good example as how my faith helped me believe in the church all though most members of the church didn't believe in me. If you were not allowed to have holy order by law,why did you still want to receive it? Well my father left me at young age with only my younger sister and mother living in poverty, I spent countless hours daily praying and I knew god wanted me to become a priest. I then took action and and took any opportunity to help others and do my calling.…

Andrea Palpant Diley in the start of her book focuses a lot on the concept of what I call a dependent child 's faith. She shares many stories from her childhood that shaped her life and the one about the hitchhiker really drew my attention. She about talked how embarrassed she was as her father preached to the young hitchhiker in the car. This reminded of a lot of times in my childhood when I would travel around with my grandmother. She always would find a person to preach to, wither we were in the clothing store or the gas station.…

The second principle of faith that Maimonides points to is the “truth of prophecy.” The second purpose of the “test” was to teach the prophets to believe in his or her own prophecies and to show no doubt in them. To explain this it is necessary to know that, according to Maimonides, God’s command came to Abraham in a dream or a vision, or in other words, a prophecy. As it is known that Abraham didn’t question this and didn’t doubt the truth of the prophecy, it is meant to be an example to other prophets. A prophet is supposed to see his or her own prophecy as true just as much as anyone would see true anything that they physically saw, felt, or heard with their physical senses.…

My definition of faith is constantly being shaped and challenged by the world and different experiences around me. Our past has so much to say about who we are as individuals, just as the history of the bible has so much to tell us about how to interpret it and make connections in the present. My life has been built on a strong foundation of church family and constant love from our creator. In our readings, I feel that Sumney does a great job of explaining how the bible is set up and how we as students can begin diving into the content that it holds. I grew up attending Grace Hill Mennonite Church in rural Whitewater, KS with my family of four.…

Based on looking at my two previous papers, my personal faith convictions would be most in line with John Wesley. He was involved in the building of the Methodism movement. His stance on getting into heaven seemed to be a mix of different ideologies. The two different ones that come to mind have to do with Calvinists and the Quakers. The Calvinists believe the Bible was The Word of God and it was distributed or spoken through the Holy Spirit.…

It is often confused what faith is and what it is not. Indeed it is an abstract term which its definition will change depending on who you ask. Throughout the works of two authors, Faith by Terrence W. Tilley and The Essential Tillich by Paul Tillich, the term faith gets evaluated and explained in a more in depth fashion. Everyone has faith; it does not have to be a religious belief, but in fact it can be a relationship with something, a center of value, or a motive. Faith, to me, is an abstruse concept where the components of belief, hope and morality unite to form a synonymous definition.…

I started to lose myself spiritually and the only time I really thought about going to church was when I was going through something . I 'm not saying that anyone that doesn’t go to church is any less holy than someone who goes every Sunday but the only time I turn to God was when I was in need . As high school teenager it really didn’t seem to have an affect on me. It wasn’t until I hit probably 20-21 that I knew something was not right .…
