“A Drug Called Tradition” is the second story what I chose it. Because this story consists, identity as a theme. Now I am trying to explain identify as a theme in this story and I will connect the concepts of identity to the above story. Three Indian boys are drinking Diet Pepsi and talking out by Benjamin Lake. (…), the Indian boys have decided to be real Indians tonight.” Alexie (pg.20). In addition to this, “your past is a skeleton walking one step behind you, and your future is a skeleton walking one step in front of you.” Alexie (pg.21). This quote tells us the hereditary identity. That means whatever it happens, ones can’t change hereditary identities. Generally, these two stories, directly or indirectly discussed about identities. But the writer used this theme in different ways in two different stories. In “Fun house,” it is about losing identity but in “A Drug Called Tradition,” it is about finding Identities and there is a huge eager to be ones’ self. In some extent, the writer used this theme in the same way. For example, proving of Identity, that means the hereditary identities parts are the same in both stories.
