Some people believe their dreams will make them happier. In some cases this is true, but in some not. A Raisin In The Sun by Lorraine Hansberry,is a play that portrays an embattled Chicago family with different dreams. The three main characters mama,ruth,and walter are battling to chase their dream to reach a certain happiness that they desire. Being the head of the household Lena dreamed for her children to have a better life and better things. Walter, Lenas oldest son sets his dream in the liquor store that he planned to invest with the money of his mother. Beneatha on the other hand, wanted to become a doctor when she got out of college. Her dreams are probably the most different out of all of them. She dreamed to become a doctor when all women are nurses. She feels that this would make her happy and help the family. But isn't doing what you love better than following the crowd even if it means paying a little more and doing a little more. As Walter tried to rip her dreams apart, he said "who the hell told you you had to be a doctor? if you so crazy 'bout messing 'round with sick people- then go be a nurse like other women or just get married and be quiet" He is trying to tell her to be like everyone else and not waste her time trying to be something but beneath did not give up and fought back "Get over it? what are you talking about, ruth? Listen im going to be a doctor, I'm not worried about who I'm going to marry yet-if I ever get married." This shows that beneath wants to end gender stereotypical that women can be doctors and will not stop fighting for her dreams. For some people happiness can be found in their dreams.
