A Dollar Play Analysis

A Dollar, as the title suggests, is a play concerning a dollar bill. Seven people come up with ways on how to use the bill. In the final turn of events, the group uses the dollar…just not the way they pictured it. Like Clybourne Park, A Dollar shared similar traits to a play: it had a group of actors, audience members, sets, props, a stage, etc. However, there were vast differences. For starters, it was a downstage production, meaning the location was not on the main stage. The area was a smaller area, with a thrust setting, where the audience faced three directions. Speaking of the audience, there was roughly the same amount of audience members from Clybourne Park to A Dollar, except ninety-nine percent of the seats were filled in A Dollar. Few props propped up on stage: a “this way” sign, a stump, and carpet resembling patchy grass. The actors carried some things, like a flask/liquor bottle and a treasure chest, but there were little props compared to Clybourne Park. Antique music distantly played in the background, and the air or atmosphere felt rusty, …show more content…
I enjoyed Clybourne Park because of the story told over two acts. A Dollar lasted about thirty minutes. I am beginning to understand what types of shows I enjoy. Although was a moral to the story – what people will do just for money – I felt this was more on the purpose of entertainment, to let out laughs and enjoy and have a good time. The actors played their characters quite nicely, but it seemed almost too nicely, almost like it was contrived. Because the space was more contained than the Turner auditorium, the actors could have toned it down a bit. They did not need to shout quite extensively because the audience members were literally feet away from the stage. If the goal was to make the play over-the-top, then mission accomplished. The play was nothing short of zany, crazy, fun-filled

The play “Rumors”, by Neil Simon, is an interesting tale of lies, confusion, and, most importantly, rumors. The Wrangler Theater production of this play really brought out its best, and blew me away. Firstly, the main theme for this play would best be summarized by the Mark Twain quote, “If you tell the truth, you don't have to remember anything.” The entire play is basically about miscommunication and lying in an effort to avoid scandal.…

Money plays a major role in society, from income to loans to even insurance money. It comes in various currencies, amounts, and forms. Money can serve as a life saver or a stressor depending on how it’s perceived. In the play A Raisin in the Sun, the arrival of a $10,000 insurance check is key to each family member in the Younger household and while the few typical readers focus on the money, the author Lorraine Hansberry influences the audience's response with character vs conflict, inner conflict, and obstacles to be faced. A Raisin in the Sun portrays conflict to be an obstacle in the way of a character getting what they desire.…

In Naked Lunch, the ex boyfriend can’t handle that his ex girlfriend won’t eat meat anymore. Eventually he gets her to eat it. The two plays are different but alike.…

Silver Linings Playbook tells the story of Pat, a former substitute history teacher with bipolar disorder who returns to his parents’ home after eight months in a mental hospital for beating up his wife 's lover, following a meltdown after his marriage broke up, and is determined to reconcile with his wife. Pat 's bipolar disorder manifests in ways that are realistically, even heartbreakingly ordinary; Pat attempts to control his mania with long jogs and rants about Hemingway. Yet the film has produced an argument among some reviewers about its portrayal of mental illness. Do the characters get off too easily, their symptoms getting better and almost nonexistent as soon as they find one another? Does the film imply that Pat 's medication was…

On November 22nd , 2015 , I had attended a play “A servant of Two masters” that played downtown Pittsburgh at the O’Reilly theater, the play was directed by Ted Pappas. He had put together a creative and intriguing play, having actors stay spontaneous and interact with the audience, therefore no parts would be found boring nor dry. All the actors had held up their end of their roles quite well, by fully disguising themselves as that character they were suppose to be during the entire play. In the play “A Servant of Two masters” is about a girl Clarice who originally had an arranged marriage but was called off due to her fiancé death, who was Federigo Rasponi of Turin.…
