Nora makes sure that her children are doing well even when she cannot be around. In another part of the story Nora is explaining her ideal happiness when she is free from debt by saying, “Free. To be free, absolutely free. To spend time playing with the children. To have a clean, beautiful house.” When Nora thinks of her happiness she shows her love for her children by showing the joy she gets from playing with them. Nora leaving Torvald and the children was a good thing. In the play Nora is realizing her husband isn’t what she wants. Nora starts to feel as if Torvald is a stranger. Nora felt as if she did not know the man she married. Nora explains how she is feeling and realizes that their whole marriage is fake. “Our home is nothing but a playroom. I have been a doll-wife.” Nora leaves to find herself. She wants to be independent. She knows by leaving all of this behind it will give her true happiness and self-worth. Nora only has the best intentions whether it was to help someone or help herself. She may go about it the wrong way but she lies to save her husband’s life and to get a childhood friend a job.
