Introduction As social workers analyzing community needs, it seems as though increasing awareness of services available to local communities would enable a pathway to healthcare stability. If more undocumented residents of the San Fernando Valley were to obtain legal status, this would surge work potential, stable housing and ability to qualify for federal and state assistance if needed. Once individuals have their basic needs met, (food, shelter and clothing), they can work toward focusing on their health and wellbeing. I visited Downtown Yonge on Friday, November 6th, 2015 approximately between 4:00PM – 6:00PM. During my visit, I noticed the area was heavily congested on the sidewalks and arterial roads. The flow of traffic was constantly steady along Yonge Street towards Grenville and Grosvenor Street, given it was rush hour. Sequentially, the traffic had significantly increased in the opposite direction towards Richmond Street. As commuters leave the downtown core, it is assumed they were going towards Union station or the highway acting as paths to head home in the inner and outer suburbs.…

In River Town: Two Years on the Yangtze Peter Hessler chronicles his two-year stay in the Chinese city of Fuling, Sichuan province, as a Peace Corps volunteer, from 1996 to 1998. Fuling has stood on the banks of the Yangtze River for thousands of years, surrounded by mountains, in the center of Sichuan province. Hessler’s arrival in this place of continuity, however, coincides with a period of dramatic change. The construction of the Three Gorges Dam will flood parts of the city and drastically change life in Sichuan. While working as a teacher of English literature at Fuling Teachers College, Hessler witnesses how a group of students raised on the dogma of the Chinese Communist Party reacts to his American style of teaching and interprets Western classics such as Beowulf and the plays of William Shakespeare.…

The Central Park Five The Central Park Five is a documentary that tells the story of five teenage boys who were accused of brutally raping, and beating a woman in New York City's Central Park. The five boys accused are Kevin Richardson, Yusef Salaam, Raymond Santana, Antron McCray, and Korey Wise. This film contains many opinions from journalists and reporters who provide a deeper understanding of why these five victims were innocent. The filmmakers convince me through the use of pathos, ethos, logos that there was no way these five young teenagers could have done this.…
