Comparing Joseph And Mary In The Gospel Of Luke

Improved Essays
There are many stories from the gospel of Luke that surprised me. One of the stories that stood out to me most was the story of Joseph and Mary. It is crazy to think how much trust Mary had for God’s plan. She was willing to do what he wanted her to do with little hesitation. One reason it stood out to me was because it should how faithful someone can be even at a young age. Often times, I find myself justifying my poor decisions on my age, such as not attending church regularly. Yet, Mary was roughly around my age and she was willing to do what God wanted her to do. This story also stood out to me because of the trust that Joseph had for Mary. He was willing to stay with her, regardless of knowing that the whole town would think that his wife …show more content…
God is a number of different things and a lot of times it is controlled by my emotions. Some days he is the answers, while other days he is the man I blame for things. I look to him when I am struggling to find answers or need reassurance in my life. I also find myself placing blame on him when I see things that are unfair. For example, a friend of mine’s dad has cancer and they told them to celebrate Christmas early just in case he does not make it. Even for me this was a challenge because during one of the holiest times, they have the challenge of trying to keep it holy and happy knowing that this could be the last time they celebrate Christmas with their father. I think throughout this semester I learning that you have to take the good with the bad. In other words, be grateful for the good times and rejoice with God, but also rejoice with God during the hard times because that is when you are going to need him the …show more content…
It has really opened up my eyes to new lessons and had my get more in-depth with stories from the bible. By going more in-depth with stories I was better able to learn the lessons that were being taught from them. The class also taught me to have my own moral compass, which is crucial. It is important to have a moral compass because my decisions should not be influenced by others. My own moral compass is what I will use when I am making important choices in my life. I also came to realize that it is okay and even encouraged to question things within my religion. It means that I am getting closer within my relationship to God. By recognizing my relationship with God, I am better able to strengthen and grow from it. I know now that I do not necessarily have to agree with everything my church does and or believes. I can still have a strong, and faithful relationship with God, regardless of how often my views conflict with what is being taught to

The Gospel of Matthew contains a number of verses that provide a conflicting yet intriguing insight to the status of women and the interactions that Jesus had with them. A consequence of these differing views is the uncertainty readers may have over the role of women and their influence in the rise of Christianity. Professor Rodney Stark’s essay on the role of women promotes the notion that women were major stakeholders in Christianity and acted as a catalyst to the religion’s rapid growth. Despite having references about Christian women with high status, the Gospel of Matthew emphasises more on the importance of their function in the Christian movement. Christianity had become a popular religion among Pagan females as a result of sacred texts…

The Broader Context: The Gospel of Luke In order to best understand how to properly interpret Luke 16:1-13, it is best to first read the passage in light of its surrounding context—the entire book of Luke. In his introduction, Luke clearly states his purpose in writing this gospel: “so that you may know the exact truth about the things you have been taught,” (Luke 1:4). This is Luke 's purpose statement, but what is the truth the Luke is trying to demonstrate? The main theme Luke wants to convey, this “exact truth,” in his gospel is that Jesus of Nazareth is the Messianic Servant to all humankind.…

A significant aspect of Jesus’ portraits has to do with the titles used to describe him and point to his humanness or divinity. The diction used in Mark is less suggestive of Jesus’ divine nature than in John. The most common title for Jesus in Mark’s gospel is “Teacher” or “Master,” plain human terms that emphasize the idea of serving others. Jesus is portrayed as the servant of God, but he is nonetheless the leader of the people on earth by virtue of his status as a prophet. Jesus being identified as “Teacher” is also important because Mark’s audience, the Gentiles, was relatively new to the faith, and Mark wanted to stress that Jesus was a model for them to serve God before serving themselves during the persecutions.…

This is all significant for somebody who believes in Jesus because it is important to see each of the different accounts sides and understand each authors perspective. It is important for somebody who believes in Jesus because it makes them see why each author composed the birth narratives in their own way. The implication I see for the differences is that when people tell different stories such as Luke and Matthew did the facts don 't always add up so people tend to think that it is not always true. This doesn 't really change the way I read the New Testament, but it makes feel that I should be more open minded to other ideas and perspectives. I shouldn’t take a side as quickly as I do.…
