He and Tabitha met in the library at The University of Maine at Orono while they were student workers. As Stephen wasn’t able to find a job right away as a teacher they lived on the money he made from industrial laundry and they occasional short story sold to men’s magazine. Later that year in the fall King got a job as a teacher at Hampden Academy. Though he still worked on short storied and novels on the weekends. A couple years later in 1973, Doubleday & Co. accepted the novel Carrie for publication and Stephen got the good news that with the sales from the book he could quit his teaching job and write full time. In the simmer of 1973 King moved him and his family to Southern Maine to be with his sick mother. During this time his mother, Nellie Ruth Pilsbury died from cancer. They year after that “Carrie” was published. That same time the Kings moved from Maine to Boulder, Colorado for a short time where Stephen wrote “The Shining.” King then moved his family back to Maine in 1975. They bought a house and King wrote two more stories. Fast-forward a couple years to 1977, King and his family moved to England for three months and then back to Maine and bought a new home. After living there for one summer, the Kings moved closer to The University of Maine Orono where he could teach creative writing and purchasing a second home in Bangor. King wanted it to be se in a place when Justice was rough and fast(The New Yorker). In fact as the reader reads through the story they start to read it as if it was a western movie. Through out the story you can see how king wanted the reader to see this as an old western. The way he explains the characters talking and what they are wearing. For example “Come out of there, Jim, and do it with your hands up. I ain’t drawn my pistol and I don't want to.”(A Death) This is also a good example “Told you, I might have lost it.
