Day 2

The jet lag wore off a bit and we were excited to start our day exploring Paris. We walked down the damp sidewalks to Le Hibou for breakfast. We decided to sit outside despite it was raining and a bit cold, we wanted to experience the Parisian lifestyle. I ordered pain au chocolat which is like a French donut. It 's crossaint with choclate inside. As I ate my pain au chocolat I people watched. I saw a lady walk past us in all black and red tights, people walking their dogs, and people biking to work. As we were eating, we were talking to a lady next to us who said was from Italy and was working in France temporarily to be an interior designer.
After we ate our breakfast, we decided to go and get an after breakfast snack at Le Pierre

We headed out to dinner and I had a classic French dish, Steak tartare. For those who don’t know what steak tartare is, it is basically raw meatloaf in a patty form. This was out of my territory. I never eat odd looking foods but thought, “might as well in Paris.” I ate it and at first it was good. The texture was off putting but by the end it felt like I was eating baby food. Also, this dinner was the first time I ever drank. Being 18, I was legal to drink alcohol. Woohoo. Because of this new freedom of mine, I got a bit too excited and may have downed some wine too fast and got a warm fuzzy feeling inside. When a man came over playing the accordion, I could not stop laughing. Why was he so funny? I don’t know, but for some reason I thought it was hilarious.
We then went to the Monoprix for food for breakfast. At this point, I’m slap happy. As I’m walking down an aisle to catch up to my family. A French guy checked me out. I repeat an attractive young French guy checked me out. It was one of those double takes where they look at you, look away, and look back and smile. That was arguably the greatest part of France. If I had a couple more drinks, I probably would have gone down the aisle and said the only French phrases I know. “Je m’appelle Kaitlynn, comment allez-vous?”..but I didn’t too

Much like Callaghan struggled to redeem control from under Parisian and Hemingway’s influences, John Glassco in Memoirs of Montparnasse endeavored to find and regain power over his narrative. Memoirs of Montparnasse was a delicate attempt to define himself and proclaim his Canadian identity amongst the modernist project in Canada. In Memoirs of Montparnasse, Glassco offers his readers an unconventional history of modernism with other opportunities in the ongoing battle to establish the ground for Canadian identity. Therefore, Memoirs of Montparnasse are a unique construction that takes important place in the Canadian literary tradition with its affiliations to gender, sexuality, and nationality in Canadian writing. Glassco’s memoir of youth belong to Montreal as much as Paris.…

Once I was cleared by the doctors, the woman took me to her apartment. When we arrived, I heard kids laughing as they splashed each other in the pool, and saw a group of older guys wearing bright red t-shirts with red shoe laces. I watched for a minute, absorbing everything in like a sponge.…

Personal statement The year 2004 marked a time in my family’s history in which we took a substantial step forward by coming to the United States. Before that, we lived through and experienced a lot of unspeakable things. Originating in Somalia, my parents understood that it was a place where nothing could be achieved. Civil war broke out, devastating hundreds upon thousands of lives, including several of my family members. Corruption infected the government, military, and all forms of law enforcement.…

Why were Victorian cities so unhealthy? There are many reasons out there as to why so many people died in the industrializing cities such as Leeds and Manchester at this time. We from the future look back on this time as a disgusting one, and it was: Children will get sick if they come in contact with feces. Unfortunately, the Victorians didn’t know this. However, perhaps the root cause lies with these four reasons: the population explosion, back to back housing, diseases, and water and waste management.…

The conversation was terrific, and they both thought I had a fabulous attitude. They have a very relaxed, non-judgemental, and open-minded outlook that I expect from the French and German people, which put me at ease. I would have enjoyed spending more time talking with them, but it was now 11PM, and I had to leave soon due to my early start at work the following day. I informed them that I'm spending Thursday and Friday in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving in case they're back there by then, so we exchanged contact details.…

“The Fall of a City” Literary Analysis “Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else’s opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation” - Oscar Wilde. This sad but true reality, especially for people who grew up in the 1950’s, is accurately depicted in the short story, “The Fall of a City” by Alden Nowlan. In this story, 11-year-old Teddy is being raised by his inexperience and oppressive aunt and uncle. Since Teddy is typically alone at home, he builds a fantasy city called Upalia made of paperdolls to keep him company.…
