In the mid-60s manufacturers improved brake designs and reliability by adding disc brakes to the front. These cars used a dual chamber master cylinder. In this situation the smaller part of the reservoir feeds the wheel cylinders for the drum brakes. The larger chamber provides fluid for the front disc brake calipers.
