I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…

So while I was back in my home town I interviewed a girl I went to school with, and for the sake of the paper I am going to refer to her as Sally. Before interviewing Sally I knew how our physical appearances differed, but I didn’t realize how culturally different we were. Understanding Others Sally is different from me in number of ways, but some of our differences are she is a mother, she refers to herself as a Christian, she still lives in the town she grew up in, and she has a job.…

Born in Guadalajara, Mexico, Maria Avina relocated with her family to Amarillo, Texas from our neighboring country. Maria, my 20 year old roommate, sat across from me dutifully working on her Calculus 3 homework, jokingly second guessing her choice of being a Mechanical Engineering major. Although she is a permanent resident of the United States, Maria hold strong ties with her mother country, keeping up with news regarding the country and its people. More recently, immigration and healthcare has been a huge topic of discussion in our household, so, understandably, I could not think of another person better to conduct this interview with. When I first met Kenzie, I honestly would have never thought that we would or could possibly get along. I am very stubborn, loud and opinionated and she is very quiet with her opinions and would rather hold back her statements than say them aloud for fear of judgment. Quickly, I did become friends with her, and I was very aware of our differences, but throughout this interview I have realized she has opened my eyes to a whole new perspective. Before this interview I would not have considered myself a feminist, because I was one of those close-minded adolescents that considered feminist as “crazy man-haters”. Feminism is a new term in my life, but I am excited to explore and find my spot in this movement, and I owe it all to this interview with…
