In a few months I will start practicing as a professional counselor. This requires hard work, continuous reading and following courses, practicum, and writing and passing my license.
The role of a counselor.
Before I delve into this I wish to clarify some point that I hold dear to me as far as counseling is a concern; it is the provision of assistance and guidance in solving personal, social, or psychological problems and difficulties, especially by a professional. This guiding role places the counselor at the center of guiding the decision making process by an individual. How best that decision is made telling us how good the therapeutic relationship was. For example a professional help someone suffering from depression and/or stress. As an individual I hope to be present for my client, maintain their confidentiality even after their death. T.,Streer, R.A., & Brown, G.K. This was published in 1996 by the Psychological Corporation. The BDI-II is a self-reporting personality inventory. It screen for the severity of depression in adults. It take 15-20 minutes to complete and it is self-administered. Marriage is a special relationship that human create for various reasons. However, it is well know that couple has different background and various attachments to their parents. Culture and religious beliefs play and important part in couple’s life. These situations will bring stressful situation that may lead to depression.
Second, I will use the Adult-Adolescent Parenting Inventory (AAPI-2) /PY 077
Inventors: Bavolek, S.J., & Keene, R.G. in 1999 and published by family development resources. This instrument is designed to enable counselors to assess the parenting and child raising attitude of adults and adolescents. Established on a five-point Likert scale, responses to the items provide an index of risk for practicing abusive behavior and neglecting parenting and child education behaviors.
