Why Creativity Now? A Conversation with Sir Ken Robinson, is an article written by Senior Associate Editor for Educational Leadership Ms. Amy M. Azzam that covers an interview she conducted with creativity expert Sir Ken Robinson concerning the critical need for creativity, the connection it has to everyday life, misconceptions that occur with creativity and its existence in education. The main idea is the need to address and facilitate creativity and the vitality of it in today’s world where innovation and ingenuity contribute so much to the survival and education amongst constantly growing populations. The lack of impersonal education that does not contain any impassioning ability, results in higher dropout rates within our communities and becomes even more likely with the counterproductive culture of standardizes testing. However, the problem doesn’t just exist within the United States, but many industrialized countries as well as each are focusing more on the test score of a student rather than offering opportunities for them to discover what is invigorating to them. Sir Robinson continues this argument by stating that we “often now we are systematically alienating people from their own talents and, therefore, from the whole process of education” which is causing students to become so turned off from uniform educational experience that they detach any want to learn (Robinson). In contrast, if the diversity of human culture would be catered to in the form of finding what individualized students excel at as well as offered them ways to participate in them, they would perform better overall as their confidence and attitude would improve
