Does morality depend on one’s culture and traditions? Share an example to support this. Now share one example that disproves this.
Although there are a few universal moral principles, morality does generally depend on one’s culture and traditions. Conscience determines what is right and it is learned. There are three ways conscience incites us to do the right:
a. It makes us feel that we have to to do what we believe to be right or not to do what is wrong
b. it allows us a feeling of self-approval, when we have done what we believe is right;
c. it brings upon us a painful feeling of self-reproach, when we have not done what we believe is right
It is obvious that homosexualism is an absolute immorality in many parts of Africa and the Muslim world but acceptable in many parts of Western world. Stealing, and breaking a promise, even if it is justifiable, are morally unacceptable by all culture and traditions. It brings disturbance to individual conscience and social sanctions.
