Illuminations Concert Report

General Reaction: The concert I attended entitled “Illuminations” was located at the Sottile Theatre, an old historical building on the College of Charleston campus. The theatre was very nice and elegant. The decor there is very eclectic with bright red carpeting throughout and classical pictures decorating the walls. I felt like I was in an old plantation house. We arrived at the theatre thirty minutes early and were able to take in the sights completely before the concert began. My wife went with me and we were seated in the balcony. The stage was pretty plain; only one piano and a few musical stands decorated it. A wall of acoustical tiles filled one side of the theatre. The other side had remnants of an old beautiful mural. murals

1, Op. 25 by Johannes Brahms. There were only four musicians. The instruments used were: the violin, viola, cello, and piano. There were four movements; Allegro, Intermezzo: Allegro ma non troppo - Trio: Animato, Adante con motto, and Rondo alla Zingarese: Presto. I could not believe how fast the pianist was playing during the fourth movement. I had never seen that before. I couldn’t believe how he could play so quickly without messing up! The piece was very calming and relaxing. I even closed my eyes during one point to just soak it all in.

Overall Performance: I was very impressed! This was my first classical music concert and was at first a little skeptical. I was never exposed to this type of music and, to be honest, was not looking forward to going to this. My wife, on the other hand, loves all types of music and was excited to go. I have to say, I really enjoyed it. I was amazed at the musicians and how well they could play. I have a whole new feeling for classical music and am looking forward to attending my next concert on Friday. I am even taking my two children so they can experience classical music as

Consequently, at the time when we were given a choice for Play #5, I was also lucky enough to receive an opportunity to see the “The Great Comet of 1812” with my residence hall. Since the tickets were significantly discounted and right at my disposal, of course I took the opportunity to go. When the show was announced, I was very excited as I had heard a lot of buzz about the musical. First of all, it stars Josh Groban in his debut on Broadway, which obviously would direct a lot of attention towards the musical. Additionally, I have heard from multiple people that the Female lead, Deneé Benton, is very much in the running this year for receiving a Tony award.…

On May 10th, I had the opportunity to the “The Stony Brook Roots Ensemble. This was my first experience witnessing traditional American music played live. The venue and the ambiance were completely different from my time at the orchestra at the Staller Center. The performance took place in the Wang Center Chapel, which had surprisingly great acoustics than expected. At the orchestra there was very strict etiquette when in attendance, where one must be incredibly quiet in order to not disturb anyone else.…

I loved the last piece in the third movement because it was played very well and it is an iconic piece. I had different emotions for the individual pieces were I felt at ease, delighted, and anxious with a dynamic feeling when the pieces go fast paced. This time I remembered the fast parts since I expected than the other first concert. The most memorable was Moonlight, presto movement. For the chamber groups they projected a playful vibe between each other enjoying when it alternates to one another.…

The two performances we did were received very well by over 1000 people. The exhibit was quite inspiring for these performances, like seeing the costumes for the Nymphs in Afternoon of a Faun gave me chills. Though the video of the restaged version of the ballet with Nureyev as the title role seemed overdramatic to me, and the Paris Opera version I learnt the ballet from was much more subtle with the characteristics.…

Overall I expected it to be a great performance, and it is safe to say my expectations were met. There was a lot of kids, and babies in attendance which I didn’t expect at all. The performance put on by the Orchestra was great. When the director of the orchestra entered the stage everyone in the audience gave him an applause as he starts to greet the audience, and talk about the performance. The projector behind the performers had videos, and drawings displayed that was turned into amination, and it brought the drawings to life while making the story more entertaining.…

As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…

I do not think any words could have truly described how I nor the rest of the audience felt during that performance. The opinions and analogies of the pieces found in the program notes did slightly influence me. I agreed with and understood most opinions and comments of the performances. The listenings I did for my pre-concert assignment were not nearly the same thing as being in the auditorium. It was a completely different experience to see, hear and feel the performance in person as opposed to watching a video on a screen and trying to listen to the depth of the orchestra through…

It's my pleasure to attend piano recital on the Friday evening, February Twenty-Third at Recital Hall. The performer, Gregory Wang, who was a senior of Jacobs school of music, and this was his graduation recital. And also, Gregory Wang, he is my teacher of my Beginning Piano Class I (P110). By the way, Sonata No.2 in D Major, Op. 94a has four individual movements, which are Moderato, Scherzo: Presto, Andante, Allegro con brio.…

Upon attending the International Chamber Music Festival Concert, a certain ecstatic vibe could be felt as the performers walked on stage with their musical instruments. The virtuoso’s performed in pieces that contained trios, duets, and quintets; showing the concentration they required when listening to each other. When working on Chamber Music, much of the melody jumps around from instrument to instrument, show casing various solos and much of the instruments having to coincide with each other to carefully listen for the melody. The first performance, was from Mosaics, by Eric Ewazen, only introducing the first movement: I. Barcarolle. The performers Dr. Susan Berdahl (flute), Dr. Xiaohu Zhou (bassoon), and Dr. James Moyer (marimba), all played outstandingly and show cased exactly how Chamber Music is meant to be played.…

It is great that we are showing music through social media to help people broaden their look on music. This symphony seemed like they were made to play with each other. The made very few mistakes and you could actually feel something about the music. The musicians made you feel as passionate as them about the music. At the beginning I got excited for the concert because of all the media they show on the ceiling and walls.…

Walking into the auditorium, I immediately noticed that the atmosphere of the concert was completely different from that of the classical concert I attended weeks earlier. To begin with, it seemed like there was much more of an audience. Everyone seemed excited for the concert to start. As for myself, I was also excited because, on the very front of the program, it said that there was a guest artist that was going to perform with the ensemble. The performers wore more of a business casual look, some were a little more dressed up than others, but overall they looked very well dressed.…

Concert Report Two The concert performance given live that I have attended on Thursday April 20th, 2017 was an organ licentiate recital by Ian Guenette. It was held at the Redpath Hall, a building located on McTavish street. The Redpath Hall was first dedicated for a library building, but is now taken charge by the Schulich School of Music. The Hall is very charming with its high selling that contains thick dark brown carved wodden beams that covers the intire ceiling and gives warmth to the room.…

Also, I appreciated the clothing they were wearing as it represented the pre-industrial period which blended with the settings. Oddly, it was shorter than the rest of the other concerts that I have attended. Personally, I would definitely attend another opera theatre because of its nice melody and story telling which is unfolding in front of the audience. In conclusion, this was my most favorite concert I have attended to here at Sacramento State…
