Throughout the novel Reynolds briefly discusses Harriet Beecher Stowe’s background, gives information about her life experiences, and how she became “the most famous women in america”. (page loc 45). Reynold strongly believes Harriet Beecher Stowe’s work ignited the civil war and inspired many people. It “intensified subversive culture forces and spread them far and wide”.(page 43). He states that her work “flooded Northern society, in contrast to the stable, conservative south,” causing a split between the nation by created a new way of thinking and molding the public opinion. (page 43-44). Not only did her work influenced revolutionaries in America but “it gave impetus to revolutions in Russia, China, Brazil, Cuba and elsewhere.” (page 91).
