Comparison Of Skin And The Help

The film ‘Skin’ directed by Anthony Fabian, the play ‘Stolen’ by Jane Harrison and the book ‘The Help’ by Kathryn Stockett are the three texts that evidently show the separation between the black and white communities particularly in the 1900s. The play ‘Stolen’ is set in Australia during the stolen generation period of time when the Government was taking children often under the age of 5, to try and prevent aboriginals from being around in the future. Likewise, the book ‘The Help’ is about the white community treating the black community as inferiors, where specifically the women had limited opportunities, where many were maids on low incomes. At the end of the play Shirley meets her new granddaughter Tamara and gets called mum for the first time in her life.”’Mum here, hold Tamara for me’” After the play is set the characters most likely meet new friends and find love. Meanwhile, in ‘The Help’ Miss Skeeter meets Stuart Whitworth and is her boyfriend for a while during the book, until he finds out about the book where he breaks up with her. Miss Skeeter, Minny, Aibileen become very close friends later on in the book while writing their book about ‘The Help’, prior to Minny and Aibileen being friends with Miss Skeeter, she was best friends with Hilly Holbrook and Elizabeth Leefolt. Minny throughout most of the book was married to Leroy and had five children, she is best friends throughout the entire novel with Aibileen. Aibileen had a son named Treelore who died when he was only 24 years old. Meanwhile, in the end of ‘The Help’ the book is finished and read across America, Miss Skeeter leaves home for New York city, Minny finally leaves Leroy after he tries to kill her for getting fired. Aibileen gets fired but finally feels free and has no idea what she is going to do for the rest of her life. In the end of ‘Stolen’ the characters finally go home to a new life and hopefully achieve their dreams. In the end it’s not only the characters lives that get a happy ending but it is the beginning of a better life and many changes for all. The main characters are not the only ones trying to change what people think, during ‘The Help’ it mentions Martin Luther King Jr. who was a leader in the Civil Rights Movement. He was trying to change peoples opinions in the novel and in reality. Rosa Parks was also someone, not mentioned in the books, but who tried to change peoples opinions after being arrested for not giving up her seat on the
