The introduction was concise when compared to the book. The book started off mentioning Harry’s life with the Dursleys in a great amount of detail including the part where the Harry visits the zoo with the Dursleys along with Dudley’s cousin, Piers. In the movie, they skipped it all to the part where Harry visits the zoo with them. The character of Piers has also been left out from the movie.
In the book what happens is that Dursleys escaped their residence after receiving an overwhelmingly large amount of letters, all of which were addressed to Harry. In the movie we saw a proper alphabetical order being followed throughout when the students were being called out for sorting or their house assignment. In the book, their names were being called out in no particular order. While looking into the Mirror of Erised, Harry saw his parents, James Potter and Lilly Potter. Whereas in the book he not only saw his parents but also his extended family including his grandparents. In the book the Harry, Hermione and Ron go on detention to the “Dark Forest”. In the book, it’s Neville who went on detention instead of Ron and the forest is referred as “Forbidden Forest” instead. While on detention, Hagrid was also present with them. They ran into Firenze and the Centaur. The movie has only shown the part where Firenze told Harry about Voldmort being in the forest. In the book there was a proper exchange of dialogues between Hagrid and the Centaur. In book Harry also met, Bane and Ronan along with
