Bella takes place in the urban and suburban part of the state of New York, during the twenty-first century. The protagonists Jose and Nina travel from Manny’s restaurant in the heart of the city, to other places around the city, to Jose’s parent’s house, and eventually to the beach. The urban surrounding allows Jose and Nina to travel around the city quickly using public transportation and go through various experiences that will convince Nina to allow Jose to adopt her child. If this story took place in a rural setting conditions would be completely different. “Young Goodman Brown,” on the other spectrum took place in the rural area of Salem, Massachusetts during the seventeenth century. Goodman Brown’s religious trip took place in the forest surrounding the village. Throughout the trip Brown was very nervous of his surroundings and constantly thought there were Native Americans taking cover behind the trees. Goodman Brown was absolutely confused by the dream like experience that happened. He asked himself why were there all these people he once knew out in the forest during the night. Once he discovered the ritual in the forest and that everyone was acting against their beliefs he was completely astonished, especially when he say Faith along with the others. Although the stories both took place in different settings, their rural/urban themes were essential to the progression of the story
