In our study of World History this semester would you say that the ‘ancient’ or past civilizations that we have looked at are drastically different than the societies in which we live today ?
Throughout history, a plethora of civilizations ranging through time from ancient to modern, have displayed traits that allow them to be deemed similar or contrasting from other societies. It seems that wars throughout history either occur for one of 3 reasons. The first reason for war seems to be a quest for land, the second seems to be over religion, while the last reason for war is a simple yearning for power. Alexander the Great was known as one of the greatest conquerors who built his empire because of his quest for land. The Mongol’s were able to capture a vast majority of Asia under the command of Genghis Khan who had a yearning for power and land. The crusades can even be classified as a war over religion which took place between Muslims and Christians. Today, if any person turned on the news they would probably hear about a war taking place somewhere in the world. Iran, Iraq, Syria, Israel, Mexico are all places in the modern world where popular wars are occurring. Just because something impacted the world, it does not mean that this impact had to be positive. Because of Christianity, there have been positive and negative impacts on the world and its marriages. Christianity defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman with intentions to reproduce. It is frowned upon to be gay in the Christian faith as the bible is said to define marriage between a man and a woman, not between two people of the same gender. This causes trouble in the world for people who are not doing anything wrong and just want the same right to marry as straight couples do. Luckily in America, gay marriage was legalized in all fifty states (even though it should’ve always been legal). A positive impact that Christianity has had on marriage is that it doesn’t believe that women must get married. This provides freedom and a voice for women in the world who are being forced into
