Many communities today encompass health organizations that are available for vulnerable populations. One group of susceptible people is women. Moreover, women who are pregnant and struggling with mental health issues are at risk for mortality. Women encounter obstacles to health care access and face knowledge discrepancies associated to health promotion and disease prevention behaviors, which thwart women from taking accountability for their health, regardless of education level and socioeconomic status (Nies & McEwen, 2015). According to Nies and McEwen (2015), Healthy People 2020 aims to decrease maternal mortality as a primary objective for Americans. In Union County, an organization is available that provides services to pregnant women and assists with mental health. This paper will examine the Pregnancy Care Center (PCC) of Union County, discuss the benefits of the organization, ways it could improve the service, and explore ways in which a community health nurse could be of value for the organization as it relates to women’s health disparities in my community.

First, this organization provides mental support and counsel to reduce the risk of depression along with an associated risk of suicide.
