The Great Depression was a chronic, harsh economic depression that occurred in the 1930s. In the United States, the depression began right after the stock market crash of October 1929, in which sent the wall street into a dismay and obliterated millions of investors. Over the next few years, the consumer spending and investment dropped. which brought declines in industrial output as well as the rising levels of unemployment of many companies that laid off workers.
