Narrative Essay About A Christmas To Remember

A Christmas to Remember The snow had fallen, December had come. The door to the basement had been flung open, and box after multicolored box was lugged up the stairs as the basement was expunged of every last piece of holiday decorations. Soon the fake evergreen was up, its green plastic eves slung with twinkling white lights, glistening red ornaments, and a patchwork of other mismatching baubles and family trinkets. The Christmas season was here. However, this Christmas was to be a Christmas unlike any other, not for any gift I received, but for the gift I gave. For several years prior to this, dating all the way back to the ancient year of 2012, I had been investing my free time into an unusual project for a kid …show more content…
Seeing no alternative, I enjoyed myself, but as soon as the party was over I snuck straight to my room and straight to my keyboard. The end of my book was in sight- but I still had much to do. The hours ticked by. "Still not done... Still not done..." played my thoughts in the brief interims of freedom they had. The clock struck twelve: Christmas day, still not done. First twelve, then one, then two. Then, half passed two, in the cold darkness of Christmas morning, the chattering sound of typing vanished from my room, leaving the world in perfect silence. After a few last, piercing clicks, my hands left my keyboard. It was …show more content…
Though perhaps not the parade of a response I might have hoped for, in the moment their simple praise reached my ears as a round of thunderous cheers, ones that shook the very foundations of the house in which I stood. It made my brain go fuzzy with an excitement that quickly consumed my mind, blending the following hugs, smiles, and holiday cheer together into one, beautiful singularity of absolute bliss. Years of work, hours toil, gallons of proverbial blood, sweat, and tears, now shared with the people I cared for most on Christmas day itself. Nothing on earth could make me

The school had just gone off for winter break. I was excited to be free of homework for two weeks I thought to myself. Tamales Through Time This year’s craziness and smells of carne and my family gathering in my grandparents’ kitchen brings a big, bubbly smile to my face, like always, because I know this means the official start of Christmas, and Christmas means I get to be with my family and Santa is going to bring me presents! My mom says that she heard that I’m on Santa’s nice list for the 5th year in a row! I always look forward to tamale making because I get to be around all my cousins and aunts and uncles and watch them make yummy food for our Christmas Eve feast while I make gingerbread houses! And every year when I ask if I can help this time, grandma always explains while grinning that “you can’t help with the tamales until you’re tall enough to reach the counter because someone so tiny will get knocked into the masa and then we will have tamales that taste like Alejandria!…

I miss them already. Despite the freezing cold snow and the nipping air, we had a lovely Christmas break. As I inspect my child, now grown with children of her own, holding tickets back to their home, longing envelopes me. Hoards of people push past, unaware of my pain, on their own schedules and heading toward different trains, talking and texting on their cell phones. My family boards, time as if in slow-motion, and waves goodbye until I see them again.…

After a long, fun, and adventurous break in Longmeadow, I find myself back here in Deerfield. Winter vacation lived up to all of the hype for sure. Being in town with all my old friends was a great experience. Not only hanging out with them and seeing how they’ve been, but hearing about the stories that have been going around my old school and gossip like that. The best part of my break was going to a New Year’s party with all of my friends and seeing even more familiar faces.…

Every Christmas Eve our family gathers around the coffee table in our apartment in New York City. During the day we go to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and buy chocolate candies from the Greenwood Pastry on the corner. Uncle Riley leads the way as we walk the streets until the light begins to fade between the office towers and the crippled gargoyles forever perched on the corners of the buildings that illuminate a golden age gone by. We laugh together and reminisce about the previous Christmases we have spent together. The elevator seems quieter on these nights, almost as if it has a respect for the holiday, but I know it’s just because we’re all crammed in there together.…

Christmas break in my opinion is probably the second best brake that we have throughout our school year. The main thing I like about Christmas break is how long it is. But even though I like how long we are off school it's almost like we don't have a break because basketball takes over. We get a few days off but the rest of the days are hitting the gym early in the mornings for two to three hours a day. The days I have is the best thing in the world because I get to relax and do something fun for once.…
