"I wear the chain I forged in life," replied the Ghost. "I made it link by link, and yard by yard; I girded it on of my own free will, and of my own free will I wore it.” (Dickens 9) Haven’t you heard that line before? Like during christmas, when you are sitting around the fireplace with your friends and family watching the drama. Well, that drama you are probably watching is most likely, A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens. This story has been around for many years, when the book was first published in 1843. Over the years, they had made a movie which although had many differences, was still very inspiring. Some of these differences may include different characters, setting, and format.
The drama created by Charles Dickens was the first that was created. The conflict of the play was that the main character, Ebenezer Scrooge, thinks that Christmas is a “Bah Humbug.” He is now haunted by ghosts that are showing him his life from his past, present, and future. The climax was when the future ghost showed Ebenezer his tombstone which scared him out of his wits. To resolve the conflict of the play, the ghosts show him what will happen if he doesn’t learn to love Christmas and if he doesn’t start being charitable to others. The conflict is that Ebenezer Scrooge was a cruel and greedy man. Also in the movie the three ghosts, Past, Present, and Future, haunt him in a similar way as the drama does. The climax of the movie is the same as the drama. The climax occurs when Scrooge visits the site of his own grave during the visit from the ghost of Christmas future. He comes to a realization about his own treatment of others, leading to the story's resolution, where Scrooge turns over a new leaf of generosity: visiting his nephew, helping Bob Cratchit, and paying for Tiny Tim's medical treatment
