A Christmas Carol: Comparing The Book And The Movie

After reading the book A Christmas Carol, I found many differences when I compared it to the movie Scrooged. The book and the movie had many differences. In my opinion, they were very different, but the movie still portrayed the same idea as the book.
One of the main changes that I saw was that the movie was made to be a modernized version of the book. The time setting was completely different. The time in the book was around the 1800’s and this movie was set in the 80’s, huge difference.
Another obvious difference I saw was that the actor (Bill Murray) didn’t even go by Ebenezer! He went by the name of Frank Cross. If that’s not a huge difference I don't know what is.
The last main difference that I saw was that in the book Ebenezer wanted

Clive Donner’s film A Christmas Carol, which is based upon the novella by Charles Dickens, is arguably one of the most authentic adaptations in this present time, however it poses several slight differences to the original storyline. Both mediums represented the idea of family and familial gatherings at Christmastime as ones of warmth, joy and “all in a glow” brought on by the idea of hope through the birth of Christ and Scrooge as the stark opposite, a “grasping, scraping, clutching, covetous old sinner,” who personifies the absence of Christmas spirit. Scrooge, the epitome of a miser, is not without family- he chooses to disregard the existence of his nephew Fred and lives a solitary life. Both the film and the novella depict this reclusive…

The Patrick Stewart version was also more dramatic than the rest of the versions. For instance, Scrooge offered no pity towards the poor, and his heartless tirade at the portly gentlemen who come collecting for the poor on Christmas Eve. In the Muppet version, the singing and comedy also covered up the plot. By the story's end, Scrooge is a changed man, who embraces the spirit of Christmas. Therefore, the Patrick Stewart version is the most effective out of the Muppet, the Novella, the play, and the Patrick Stewart versions of the "Christmas…

Upon seeing A Christmas Carol on the night of Friday, November 18th, I had what I thought to be a firm understanding of the Charles Dicken’s classic. It was until the show was over that I realized my previous interpretation was completely senseless, with little to no opinion deriving beyond the script. As I dove into the performance in the Joan C, Edwards playhouse, I made personal connections that I had never made before when watching other adaptions of A Christmas Carol, in particular Scrooge (1970), my father’s favorite. Every detail of this performance aided in my overwhelming positive review, asserting this play as my favorite of all the revisions I have seen.…

In the book The Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens there were multiple hidden, as well as obvious themes presented to the reader. One can have nothing and have it all or one can have it all yet have nothing was a theme Charles Dickens showcased within his book through multiple characters such as Ebenezer Scrooge and Tiny Tim. For example, on page 100-101 Bob Cratchit talks about how much he loves Tiny Tim and his positive outlook on life and on page 105 Tiny Tim says, “God bless us every one!” These quotes and pieces of evidence show us that you can have nothing and have it all. This is an example of you can have nothing yet have it all because Tiny Tim doesn’t have anything.…
