Millions more of kids have a dad who are physically present, but emotionally absent” (Pg1 S.Mission). That’s twenty million kids who face the challenges of life without the other figure in their house hold. The part about a father being there physically but not emotionally refers to a child feeling like their father does not love them and he is not there for them, they are just present in the household. Studies show “students in grade one through twelve, only thirty-nine percent live in homes absent their biological fathers” (Pg1 S.Mission). The statistic that stood out to me was when Mission mentioned “fifty seven point six black children, thirty one point two of Hispanic children, and twenty point seven of white children are living absent of their biological fathers” (Pg1 S.Mission) (2012). The numbers in the black community are outrageous, that’s more than half. I believe myself as a black man, I have to take responsibility in the future to lower this number and be there for my kid or kids. The most significant social or family problem facing in America is fatherless children according to seventy two point two percent of the U.S population. I agree, I would be part of that percentage that believes that. (Statistics) Its honestly destroying and deterring our communities, we need more leaders that are going to be there in our communities and homes. One of my idols that I look up to is my friends father, he is in his child’s life heavily and still helps out our community; which I admire. According to the YouTube link Mission included, seventy one percent of high school drop outs and teenage pregnancies accumulate from people without their fathers, that’s seven out of ten people, the correlation is apparent. Even with the youth that is in prison, percentages stand out ; eighty five percent of the youth that are in prisons come from fatherless
