For my review, I am focusing on a book called A Child Called It by David Pelzer. I chose this book because while I was reading it, it spoke to me on many levels and made me feel more content with my childhood growing up. Pelzer is a strong person that writes about his horrific childhood living under his mother's roof and what he had to do to survive. Through this review, we will be looking at where it took place, writing style, characters, and the plot of the story.
A Child Called It takes place in a small old rundown house in Daly City, California The setting matches the place and time period of the story. He spent most of his time the house where he slept, ate the very little he was given and went to the bathroom. He Gives true features of his life as he remembers it. There was his mother, Catherine Roerva Pelzer, father Stephan Joseph Pelzer, his Four brothers, Ronald, Stan, Russell, and Kevin, Mr. Hansen David’s principal, Mr. Ziegler David’s fifth-grade homeroom teacher, and Miss Moss David’s fifth-grade math teacher.
The plot makes perfect sense and is very clear. The rising action of this is that Pelzer starts getting sinfully abused more and more. He was four when he started to get abused. Pelzer refers to his early childhood “My two brothers and I were blessed with the perfect parents. Our every whim was fulfilled with love and care (17).” Pelzer’s mom used to be a normal stay at home mother of five boys until she suddenly turned upside down and started to get physical with Pelzer. Sadly, no one did anything, Until on the day of school nurse exams the Accidents were too big to hide
