Ana Elizabeth Rosas, the author of the A Chicana History Perspective, attempted to provide the best possible way to educate students about Chicana history. When Rosas wrote in regards to “accessible and humane continuum of sources” (Rosas, 2012, ¶ 3), she purposely wanted to engage the students in both a simple and emotional way. As Rosas elaborated, “crafting and facilitating introductory discussions of the motions entangled in the Chicana experience has been imperative to teaching the gendered realities Chicanas have and continue to face across space and time” (Rosas, 2012, ¶ 3). Rosas claimed that in order for the students to understand and feel the importance of Chicana history, they must first be engaged in it. Students would naturally develop a deep interest in their Chicana history by means of a persistent and constant education that deals with the emotional aspects of being Chicana. …show more content…
I believe that Rosas’s central point was stated when she asserted that “I am convinced that we must approach Chicano history open to a combination of sources that capture the emotional stakes shaping the Chicana experience, as well as that of our students, to teach effectively in the face of resistance” (Rosas, 2012, ¶ 9). Rosas used the examples of the popular film 500 Days of Summer, along with the emotional life of a young Chicana with her struggling father. However, she clearly stated that these are not the only methods of engaging with Chicano students.
