Due to the problem, the district has been rocked for above 20 years, which has attracted the state control, which worsens the situation. The district has continued to follow the same path, putting the education of the many students who study within its schools at a risk. Implementing a funding formula in schools within the district is a public policy issue because struggles to stay afloat is also a problem. On the April 4th ballot in Jefferson City, Missouri, voters will make the decision to vote on Proposition J plus C as to whether the two-high school plan will be active or not. Proposition J includes a $130 million dollar bond issue to build a second Jefferson City Public High School and restore the original Jefferson City High School, standing since 1963. Introduction Marva Collins, the founder, principal, and teacher of Westside Preparatory School believed that all students were teachable. As a teacher in the public school system in Chicago, Illinois she witnessed firsthand how black students were disservice by public school education. Many students were labeled with a learning disability, which led them to believe that they were unable to learn, and thus they had given up on education. Before the Hull-House era, the neighboring community of Chicago’s West Side showed an increasing demand for education. If the small school districts consolidate, there would be benefits; such as a more flexible budget and more learning opportunities for students (both in academics and extracurriculars). Lacy Elementary School is in the process of implementing Positive Behavior Support Systems, but has seen a large influx of bullying in the cafeteria during lunch hours. Bullying involves any type of psychological or physical abuse and includes such behaviors as teasing or taunting (Whitted & Duper, 2005). Bullying can also be defined as the use of hostile actions that is meant to be disparaging to the individual (Long & Alexander, 2010). While studying the definitions of bullying and reading observations of Lacy Elementary School, bullying became prevalent during lunch hours, which involves large numbers of students gathering in a common area. The implementation of an intervention team, as well as creation of an action plan will combat the issue of bullying in the cafeteria.…
The Lower Merion School District provided laptop computers to high school students as part of a one to one program. The program allowed the students to bring home a laptop computer provided by the school district. Unbeknownst to the students or their parents the laptop computers were all programed with spyware that gave the school district access to the computers’ webcam. The goal of the one to one program was to increase the connectivity between home and school for students.
