A Character Analysis Of Katniss In The Hunger Games

Katniss is the female victor of the 74th annual Hunger Games, which is an event where 24 kids go in and only one comes out alive. She went into the games for one sole reason to save her sister from having to participate in the games. Katniss is a nurturing person who protects and cares for people throughout the story.

Katniss is a protective and nurturing person in many ways and on multiple occasions she shows this. Katniss in the beginning story was shown hunting so she can provide for her family.
If she is the only person who can hunt and pull game together she is obviously the one to do it. But she did it bright and early without being told to. This shows that she cares and supplies for her family. During the reaping (time they pick

Katniss met a little girl named Rue from district 11. She builds a relationship with rue and they devise a plan. The careers (strongest people in the game) have their stronghold at the cornucopia. Rue was to distract them and Katniss destroys all of their supplies then meet up with each other. Rue did not go to the meeting spot afterward. Katniss panicked and ran to find her. She found Rue tangled in a net and when she got to her a spear flew into Rue. Katniss was so quick to protect Rue she shot the boy who threw the spear in the neck. While Rue was dying she sang to her the song she sang to Prim when she was sick. This shows she treated Rue like family when she sang her Prims special song. (Page 234-235)

Later into the book (chapter 20) Peeta is with her and he is suffering from a fever and he is hurt. She nurtured him back to health with soup and medicine she got from her sponsors. “Getting the broth into Peeta takes an hour of coaxing, begging, threatening, and yes, kissing, but finally, sip by sip, he empties the pot.” (page 262) This shows she cares for him because she could have left him to die in plain site.
