A Character Analysis Of Isolation In The Film Frozen

In the story Metamorphosis, Gregor, the main character, is turned into a gigantic bug. His family cannot see Gregor for the person he used to be but for the disgusting bug he is now. The family locked him in his room and visited him to give him food only if he was hidden where they could not see him. Gregor is left to handle his metamorphosis alone and is isolated from his family and the outside world. Isolation is when someone is disconnected from the people around them, either physically, mentally, or emotionally. In the movie Frozen, characters express isolation through song in order to demonstrate how they and others are impacted by their solitude. She conceals a part of who she is, her powers. To aid Elsa in her isolation, her parents reduced the staff, closed the gates and moved Anna into another room so Elsa wouldn’t have to worry as much as she would is there were a lot of people around. Afterwards, Elsa accidentally revealed her powers to the public because her glove was not on her hand so it could not conceal her powers. Once the kingdom knew of her superhuman ability, she ran to the mountains, so she could be away from everyone. On the mountain, Elsa stated, “ It’s funny how some distance/ Makes everything seem small/ And the fears that once controlled me/Can’t get to me at all!” (Anderson-Lopez and Lopez “Let it Go”). Elsa believes that know that she is away from everyone she is not causing any body harm. She feels free to finally unleash her powers. However, Elsa did not escape from her powers. Her fear of harming people came to life when she heard that Arendelle was in deep snow because of her powers. She thought she could escape but she realized that she never could. This caused Elsa to want to hide, trying to isolate herself away from the world and the problems that
