A Change Of Heart About Animals Essay

Improved Essays
What do you think about when you see animals? Do you see them as the food you eat or just plain living species? What we don’t know is what animals really mean to us. We usually see them and just think they are plain ole animals. But what we don’t know is that animals are more like us than we imagined. With that being said we should show more love and appreciate these animals more than we do now. So we should be able to set certain laws for our animals in order to treat them with a little more respect.

In the article “A Change of Heart about Animals” Rifkin states that animals feel, pain, suffer, experience stress, affection, excitement, and even love. So what does this mean to you? Do you still think they are just plain ole animals? This is something we really have to think about. These animals are more than just animals. They are humane in a different way. When I say that I mean it, these animals can learn just like we do. For example a gorilla named KoKo had learned and mastered more than

Do you think fish feel pain? There are fishermen out there just fishing for these fish not caring about how they feel. Think about it. When a fish is out of water it’s like they are having an asthma attack without their inhaler because we don’t care. Have you ever thought that way about a fish? No, because we don’t care we just want to make that fish a meal for later. How do you think they feel when they get caught? I know this sounds bizarre but it’s true we have all these animals we see but don’t seem to find any care in the world for these fish. In the article “ Hooked on a Myth” Victoria describes that a fish's brain isn’t that different from ours. She states “...... the function of two of their forebrain areas is very similar to the mammalian amygdala and hippocampus-- areas associated with emotion, learning and memory.” How do you think about fish now? They are more like us than we think. Fish feel what we feel, all animals feel what we

Dear, Editor In Rifkin’s argument he claims that animals are capable of feeling the same feelings we are able to. I personally think Rifkin is right, as a pet owner I can see and also feel the love they have towards me and I can guarantee they can feel that same love towards them. Animals have their own way of showing their love, they can’t speak our language so they show their love in their own way. For example, when I come home from school and my dog sees me he comes running to see me and jumps on me and starts to bark, you can tell he is showing that he is excited to see me.…

Rifkin says that philosophers and animal behaviorists have argued about the capability of self –awareness in other animals. While some argue that animals do not have self-awareness because “they lack a sense of individualism”, others beg to differ. A counter statement that Rifkin utilizes is the remarkable actions elephants do when they are faced with a dead kin. Elephants will “often stand next to their dead kin for days,” and occasionally touch “their bodies with their trunks. After contributing to anticipate the common objection, many people would realize that animals are not much different than us.…

J Baird Callicott’s central criticism against animal liberationists (AL) is that the ethic is individualistic and limited to the concern of animal suffering; this ethic does not consider the morality of preserving the ecosystem. An AL argues that the interests of animals should be considered because they experience pain and suffering. They argue that the ethics of equality should be applied to other animals; all beings capable of suffering are worthy of equal consideration. Intelligence, value to a system, population size, or the destructive nature of the animal has no bearing in this consideration.…

We must respect these creatures because we are just like them. Goodall describes a time in her life at a university where the professors would tell her that animals didn’t have personalities. They would also tell her that animals weren’t supposed to have names, and Goodall found this outrageous. (Goodall 21) Goodall made animal emotions a legitimate area for scientific investigation, because she always believed all species are alike.…

I believe that animals do not need a "Bill of Rights" because it will go against centuries of human culture. Some basic laws that protect animal rights should be placed to ensure good treatment of animals. These laws will protect them better from cruel treatment but will still let humans have animals as pets and eat other ones. If people are unable to eat animals it could be a detriment to their health. It would be bad because lack of meat can cause anemia, lack of iron, and lack of muscles.…

The Legislatures should enforce additional laws in order to more effectively prevent most methods of animal cruelty and neglect, because animals should not be punished or killed for being born at the wrong time and place. Animals shouldn’t be penalized for no longer being cute or young. Animals shouldn’t be used as play toys for young children or for fighting to entertain men to gain profit. Animals should not be crammed into a small area with an unfair life because they will become food in their near future. Yes, animals are not always treated badly but it doesn’t stop some people from abusing them or miss treating them in some way.…

The intention of misusing or mistreating certain assets has become very common in people. Various beings have different purposes rather than being maltreated and neglected. As far as mishandling beings goes, animals are usually the victims. One of the many reasons for animals becoming extinct is the mistreatment by humans, such as trappers abusing animals of the wildlife for fashion-needs. Thousands of animals are harmed every day so that their fur can be used to produce furry coats.…

    Non Human Animals Essay

The issue with the topic about ‘pain in animals’ arises because the non-human animals cannot report their problems in terms of language, so the seriousness and the suffering cannot be equated with human (or individual’s) pain without any scientific method to give correlation between both kinds of pain. We cannot deny that animals do express/emote when they are in pain or danger in some way or the other, but that’s the only way we can figure out if an animal is experiencing pain. Vertebrates such as dogs, cats, alligators etc nurse their wounds, make sounds when they experience distress and tend to avoid situations which can be pain-inducing. There is also a good case that invertebrates also feel some amount of pain. We cannot measure the amount of pain that an animal goes through but we do know that there is at least some harm caused to an animal when they are being utilized as commodities and not as living beings by humans.…

Surrounded by open land and quite enough to hear the birds from afar I sit on my front porch swing with my dog beside me. As I look at him, I remember why I work so hard at school and think about how my compassion towards animals has led me to become so interested in the well being of animals. Because of the situation that we went through, it became clear to me that I not only had an interest, but a passion for helping animals when hurting or ill and that I would love to do everything that I possibly can to help them through their pain. My family and I got home late from school and my dog did not run to the gate with his usual excited eyes.…

Growing up in a dysfunctional family from alcoholism, fighting, and mental illness one thing that has comforted me throughout my life is my love for animals. At the age of four I was introduced to my first kitten named Patches. When I was a having a hard time coping with things in my environment my feline was always there for me as he never got mad at me, listened to my feelings, and just wanted my unconditional love. Soon my love for animals took a turn and I remember having twelve cats as they were all provided with more than the basics for life of food, water, shelter, and love with an acre and a quarter of land for their lurking and mouse hunting pleasures. However, when I turned eight years old that world that I knew unraveled through my eyes as we had to sell the property that we lived on because my grandparents passed away and it was their estate.…

Everyone, no matter humans or animals, makes a unique and equal contribution to the world. So we should treat all living creatures equally. From the ocean to the sky, Earth has been an aesthetic wonder and a natural marvel with 8.7 million hosts altogether (Science Daily, 2011). It is because of the diversity of the species, we have our home. We have rights to do whatever we want but the rights that belong to animals have been deprived by us.…
