A Central Problem Indicator In The Witch Trials

Decent Essays
A central problem indicator in the trials was the use of spectral phases because the crime had to do with the deal between the devil and the people with charges of witchcraft, which may risk the devil taking the witch’s body over, and because of this there would be no witnesses, which makes the problem difficult. Spectral evidence includes the affidavit by the associated that they could detect the ghosts of the witches haunting their victims; the evil actions were not performed by the accused themselves, but by the evil spirits who seize their human form. One complication with spectral evidence was that spirits of demons were imperceptible to other people in the identical space; only the distressed girls could see the forms of the spirits.

Children have the power to determine someone's fate in life. In 1692, children accused the innocent of witchcraft during the Salem Witch Trials and in 1984 children made accusations of sexual abuse. The innocent faced jail time and those accused of witchcraft were hung. The Fells Acre Day Care Center was a case similar to the Crucible where the innocent where accused, accusations were made with little to no evidence, and the innocent were killed. 1692 was one of the darkest years in U.S history.…

The more recent book, Mary Beth Norton’s In the Devil’s Snare, stated that the witchcraft trials were influenced by events during that time period, particularly the Indian Wars. These wars caused refugees from towns that were destroyed by the Indians to move to Salem in droves, boosting fear and social instability. The author asserts that the primary difference between these theses is that the former would have you believe that accusations of witchcraft were made solely out of devotion to faith, while the latter adds the variable of a troubled time…

Different speculations about the causes of the Salem Witch Trials have been revealed throughout the years. Many studies have been done to analyze the origins of the trials, and there are many articles and journals about the Salem Witch Trials. These resources explain some of the different beliefs about the causes; however, not every theory can be correct. Some researchers have stated their belief that the witchcraft performed was real. Others posit that the trials began because of confrontations among members of the Salem community, but many believe mycotoxins were the reason of the trials because there are many studies that show a certain mycotoxin, ergot, as being a probable cause of the trials.…

A series of hangings and executions had taken place from June 10, 1692 to September 22, 1962, which was known as the Salem Witch Trials. By examining five documents based on the Trials, I have figured out that that there are multiple events that lead to this major event in history. My analysis shows that the leading causes for the Salem Witch Trial Hysteria were the very little to no evidence made for the case, the unusual ratio between the accused and accusers, and the locations of the accused witches and accusers in the Salem village. Evidence shows that the accusers did not have sufficient evidence to prove that the people were performing witchcraft. For example, below is an example of an examination: Examiner - “Hath this woman hurt you?”…

Once accused, the “witch” could not leave the court with a proclamation of innocence. Use of spectral evidence, “a witness testimony that the accused person 's spirit or spectral shape appeared to him/her witness in a dream at the time the accused person 's physical body was at another location” (“Spectral Evidence”), played a key role in condemning citizens in trial. As observed in Bridget Bishop’s trial, spectral evidence was impossible to prove legitimate. Bishop’s trial was one of many where spectral evidence was used as a major deciding factor in the outcome of the…

One method was the use of spectral evidence, which was drawn upon quite often. This was the claim that an evil spirit of the supposed witch visited the afflicted. A few even claimed that it was the Devil’s doing, meaning that he or she would take corporeal form. Some argued that the Devil could have done this with someone’s permission and some argued that the Devil could have done this without, which would favor the defendant. However the court recognized that this could only be done with the permission of the witch.…

The false accusations and chaos that ensues is much like the McCarthyism scandal of the 1950s. Senator Joe McCarthy, leader of the House Committee on Un-American Activities began as a result of communistic scares in the United States after WWII. The job of HUAC was to hunt and expose guilty people of having relations or feelings for communists. The “witch hunt” of the 1950s resulted in the death of several people along with suffering on the part of many others.…

The Salem Witch Trials, had its dealings with the supernatural world, people afflicted (or bewitched) seeing “witches’ in their visions, a “mysterious” man taunting people to sign his book, or even unexplained deaths of livestock or even an infant. Whatever it may have been, the people of Salem Village all assume that it is “supernatural.” Samuel Parris and others speculate that anything supernatural is because of the doings, or even presence of the devil. It is this concept that brought forth the Witch Trials which convicted over two-hundred, and nineteen of them hanged. Their convictions stemmed from people who bewitched, seeing them in visions.…
