Sandburg used imagery to describe the time after the war. One poem that shows this is called “Fog”. This is a short poem that talks about a cat in the fog. Though it is a short poem in makes the reader see that the time after the war was like a cat in the fog just coming and going. “The fog comes on little cat feet/ It sits looking/ over harbor and city/ on silent haunches/ and then moves on” (Perkins, G. and Perkins, B., 2009. P. 1464). In the poem “Sothern Pacific” he discusses the difference between the classes and the similarities. In this poem Sandburg shows in imagery and in form how alike and how different the two men from this time period were. “Huntington sleeps in a house six feet long/ Huntington dreams of railroads he built and owned/ Blithery sleeps in a house six feet long/ Blithery dreams of rails and ties he laid” (Perkins, G. and Perkins, B., 2009.
