CASE STUDY Shanti, age 32 was divorced by his husband after 10 years of marriage. Shanti started to work with her husband at his mini market as a shop helper. Her husband, Jamal is the most trusted person as he always be kind to Shanti and the villagers. One day, his husband gave Shanti a tin of coke which had been diluted with a drug. Shanti drank the coke and became unconscious due to the effect of the drug. The husband raped her and refused to take responsibility. Shanti later on reported the misbehavior of her husband to the head of the village. The Tok Ketua asks Jamal to marry Shanti. They finally got married. At the early stage of their marriage, Jamal already abused Shanti. Jamal did not satisfy as Shanti reported his misbehavior to the head of the village and the news spread to all over the village. Jamal kept abusing Shanti emotionally by using harsh words and physically by using helmet or …show more content…
United States Department of Justice defined it as a pattern of abusive behavior used by one partner to gain or maintain power and control over another intimate partner which could be physical, sexual, psychological, social, and financial in nature. The abusive behavior can be turned in many forms including intimidation, isolation, frightening, threatening, wound, hurt, coercion, terrorizing, and so on. Domestic violence is also a form of violation of human rights as it against the right of humans to their safety, life, equality, and development. This domestic violence can happen to anyone regardless of race, religion, age, gender, or sexual orientation in any types of relationship. However the most common domestic violence incidents are carried out by a man on a woman where it was stated in Malaysia that more than eight hundred thousand women have experienced this domestic abuse. Thus, the women become the vast majority victims on these cases regardless the way of domestic violence is carried
