The carpenter had a set of skills that are very important and valuable to the lord. The carpenter has a role that makes him unique and different from other in different guilds or serfs. The carpenters would make doors and furniture for the castle or manor, he would use wood to make these thing. The carpenters special skill was woodworking. When stone castles came the carpenters made wood planks and beams for the castle support system or for the roof. The carpenters would use special tools that they used when working with wood. There are two different types of axes, the felling axe and the shaping axe.The felling axe would be used to cut down the trees, and the shaping axe would cut the timber and shape it with accuracy. There's also a broad hatchet which is a small shaping axe. There are 2 types of saws the carpenters would use a pruning saw and a bow saw. The carpenter provides necessary things so the manor can strive and be self sufficient. The carpenters would make homes out of wood and repair them, this was very useful because then other serfs would not know how to work with the wood and they would not be farming. The carpenter would also contribute to building things like the mill and parts of the church, both of these things were important to the manor economically and for the people. The carpenter would also use tools essential to his tasks on helping the manor. Mallets or hammers were very useful because the carpenters would hammer the pegs into the wooden frames, this was useful for the roofs to keep the planks together. There are 2 types of saws the carpenters would use a pruning saw and a bow saw. A pruning saw was used to cut timber to length and a bow saw had a wood frame that was used to keep the blade from bending.
