For most of my life I presumed the closest I would ever come to a career in medicine would be basic first aid and an occasional CPR class. In social work, I found myself successfully managing case loads and quickly defusing crisis situations, but never fully having the resources to help clients with their deep rooted, often medically related issues. I do not want to simply be a doctor who can correctly diagnose a patient and administer treatment. As a physician I hope to use the countless relational skills I have acquired to earn the trust of my patients and show them how much I care about their overall wellbeing. I plan to use my psychology skills to treat my patients as a whole person with many facets, not just as a physical symptom that has walked into my office. I want to carry over my skills in effectively managing high stress and emergency situations while remembering to use gentleness, understanding and compassion to help patients through difficult times. Through my career in social work I understand the emotional demands and the time commitment required by a career where you are serving others, and I am prepared to take on the demands of the job including scheduling my personal life around the needs of those I am
