Everyone has a dream, but not everyone has the determination to make that dream a reality. To become a pharmacist it takes hard work and dedication. People want to become successful but don’t want to do the work it takes; they want everything handed on a platter. When choosing this career field, one must look at and plan the process they must take and obstacles that could be in there way.
To begin, learning what pharmacy is and what pharmacists do is the most important part of choosing this career. There could be something you do not like about it and to succeed in a career you have to have the passion for it. According to Britannica Encyclopedia Concise, pharmacy is the science of dealing with drugs. Pharmacists prepare and distribute prescribed medications. Before you can start a pharmacy program known as Pharm.D program, there are pre- requisites that must be taken at an undergraduate level. These courses can take from 2-4 years to complete. The subjects include: Anatomy and Physiology, biochemistry, Fundamentals of biology, General Physics, Immunology, Organic Chemistry, and Pharmacy Orientation. The pre- reqs help students get ready for the Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) to start their program. It is best to major in a laboratory science for other career paths other than pharmacy.
Earning a pharmacy degree (Pharm. D) is a four year program. The first year is learning about pharmacy laws, drugs and patients. It is basically the information that pharmacist should know. The second and third year goes more in depths from the first year focusing on pharmacotherapy, biostatistics, and health management etc. The four and final year is about hands on experience, putting everything they have learned to use.
