Within the previous year, 13 percent of children ages 8 to 15 in the U.S. were diagnosed with some kind of a mental disorder and 17.9 percent of adults in the U.S. were diagnosed with a mental illness. For many individuals their mental illness can get out of control if left untreated; it’s the job of the psychiatrist, to diagnose, treat, and prevent mental disorders from becoming too overwhelming.
