According to the National Center for Charitable Statistics, currently there are over 1.5 million non-profit organizations in the United States. The most important work that a non-profit organization does is to raise money for operations and to achieve the work the non-profit needs to do. The person in charge of raising these funds is often known as the “director of development” or even just as a “fundraiser”. Regardless of their title, the person who raises funds for a non-profit organization is a critical part of the organization. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, this field is expected to grow 17% from 2012 to 2022, which is faster than the average rate of growth (“Fundraisers: Occupational Outlook”). The outlook for fundraising as a career is optimistic because organizations will always need people to help raise money.
