A Career As A Teen Ambassador

Decent Essays
I joined the NMAFA teens the summer of 2015 during my sophomore year in high school. I originally applied for the adult docent position as a high school student however, once I gained entry the coordinator realized I was actually still in high school she referred me to the Teen Ambassadors program for young adults. I began training to become a Teen Ambassador in late June of 2015. While I served as a Teen Ambassador I acted as an interviewer to visiting distinguished artists that worked with NMAFA such as Marcus Neustetter and Ato Malinda. I also helped conduct guided tours for visitors such as school groups as well as special guests such as Advisory Board Member Anne L. Howard- Tristani. Volunteering over the summers at a camp for children ages two through nine has opened me to an entire set of skills that reflect those a qualified NSHSS Ambassador should have. Working with children requires you to act as a role model. From a young age what children are exposed to influences their views on right and wrong and what they think of as the right way to act, this is why you must be vigilant in constantly working to inspire them to have desirable traits. Quick thinking is also a big part of working with kids, you must always be on your toes, ready to change gears for whatever comes next and willing to do anything to reign in their short attention spans. It’s a tough job…

It was the end of junior year when Wieman nominated several people, myself included, to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security in Washington D.C.. I had never been to the East coast so I jumped at the chance to go. It was extremely costly but strings were pulled and I actually came up with the $2000 tuition. Although it broke my wallet, it was by far the best six days of my life. I had an amazing journey and the destination was nothing to sneeze at either.…

The importance of a child or young person centred approach is to make sure that we meet the needs of all individuals. It is important that all children and young people’s voices are heard and that they can be in control of their education, lives and future goals. It’s also important because it allows all children and young people to fully participate in society as it put them at the centre and helps us to see what they feel is important and that their wishes should be taken into account.…

As a possible incoming student, who not only desires to, but needs to learn and attend a favorable campus, the things that I can offer and/or bring are my experiences and skills. I will try to help enrich the campus community as much as I can. Although, my experiences and interests may be easily overlooked by some because of the simple fact that I am “only seventeen,” and that everyone is still continuously evolving. I believe I can still bring something to only help enrich the community. A particular experience that I know differentiates from others is, being Hmong.…

It is a time where young people are undergoing rapid emotional, physical and personal changes. Having a positive influence on young Australians is essential for their wellbeing as they learn from and look up to family, peers and social media. Young Australians make up 14% of the nation’s population (ABS, 2013) and it is essential that they have a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Despite the fact that 93% of young Australians rate their own health as good or balanced (Mind frame 2016), and state that they are improving their health through increased positive influence, this does not mean the health status of…
