A Career As A Profession Of Arms

A profession is a field of study, considering the textbook definition. My mind defines a profession as a career. Working to gain a career by attending college or any type of vocational school, you are developing a profession. Some employees show hard work and train to advance in a specialty; you have succeeded and accomplished something important that you can be proud. “Professionals are actually servants” Student Handout, (An Army White Paper, The Profession of Arms, 2010, p. 2). A profession of arms. Being a part of the Profession of Arms I have felt a sense of acceptance and pride. First, I am a high school dropout. To some that may mean nothing but it has not been an easy road. The US Army has made me successful, trained me in my job skills, and taught me to perform my duties with diligence, for that I am thankful. Military systems constantly change and upgrade. You must continue to grow keeping up with Soldier’s and Commanders needs alike. This is a demanding role to play. Many NCO’s must take multiple training courses during drill time as well as on personal time after working as a Civilian or maintaining a family life. This balancing act can also contribute to satisfaction and success. Leaders gain information wearing a uniform, utilizing those skills in a civilian capacity.
