The pharmacy technician is the person whose principal function is assist the Pharmacist, however, over the years a technician has been gaining more and more responsibilities that required to have a major knowledge and training to ensure a safe practice. Associations like Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) offers certification and continuing education to technicians to maintain them up to date, however, this kind of certifications are not mandatory and the level of preparation differs from state to state. According to the National Association of Boards of Pharmacy only 18 states require pharmacy technicians being certificated, for the rest a high school diploma and in-the-work training is what are accept as a formal requirement.
