A Career As A Nurse Practitioner (NP)

There are over two hundred types of nurses out there, but I’ve got my eye set on only one. I would like to one day become a nurse practitioner or NP. They are very intelligent, hard working, and committed people. They are able to see patients of all ages from young to old. NPs along with health care services, conduct research and are active in patient advocacy activities.

First, to become an NP they must first complete the education and training to be an RN, or registered nurse. To become an RN advanced education must be completed. Requirements include having an associate degree in nursing, a bachelor of science degree in nursing, or the completion of diploma program. In a nursing program, associate degrees are offered by community colleges and junior colleges. They usually take two to three years to receive, Bachelors are offered by universities and colleges, and take four to five years to receive. Depending on the program being attended, the candidate may fulfill some NP requirements while completing the RN degree. There are multiple schools out there that can provide advanced education and training. The schools I may be attending include West Virginia University, Kent State University, or West Liberty University. I would like to stay local and around my home. …show more content…
They practice a variety of things. Acute and long term care, outpatient care, and specialty clinics. Their daily practice is very similar to a doctors. They can do multiple types of things such as diagnosing diseases and conditions. They can prescribe medications that must be permitted by law they can provide counselling and education to patients that have certain symptoms. They can also initiate and manage treatments. They can provide care to adults, children, and elders. Also families who need any care can also be treated by NPs. They are trained in midwifery, which means they assist the women throughout the pregnancy, and also assist with the delivery of the
