A person living by feelings alone is like a boat on the water without a rudder or a compass. That boat has no ability to be guided; it simply goes wherever the winds or currents take it. A person making decisions based entirely on feelings is similarly blown around by emotional winds. The problem of a life lived by feelings is addressed in the Wisdom Literature of the Bible. It is written in Proverbs 12: 15 (NIV) “The way of fools seems right to them, but the wise listen to advice.”

When Jesus is seen by the disciples they are terrified because they think they are seeing a ghost. Jesus immediately speaks calming words to them, telling them not to be afraid. Peter’s has a completely different response than the others. It is written in verse 28
(NIV), “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “Tell me to come to you on the water.” Jesus tells him to come.
