The two teams met again 25 days later to finish the game in front of a near empty Yankee Stadium. Because of his tirade, Brett was ejected from the game and not allowed to play, along with Royals skipper Dick Howser. Yankees manager Billy Martin, along with owner George Steinbrenner, did everything in their power to prevent the continuation of the game from occurring. Hal McRae struck out to end the top of the 9th and Royals pitcher Dan Quisenberry entered the game in the bottom half and retired the Yankees in order to end the game.…
The Billy Goat Curse How do you think the Billy Goat Curse started and what do you think happened during that timeframe? At first I thought the Billy Goat Curse was just a myth, but it’s actually true. The Billy Goat Cure really made Chicago Cubs fans very mad because they have not won a World Series until this year. Also the last time the Chicago Cubs won the World Series was all the way back in 1908 which is more than a century ago.…
“Baseball was, is, and always will be to me the best game in the world.” - Babe Ruth My favorite place to be is a baseball field. I am most comfortable when I am playing baseball. There is no more relaxing feeling to me than trotting out to shortstop while the hot, golden brown dirt kicks up from my heels.…
Who will win the series? Who will be the World Champions between the Cincinnati Reds and the Chicago White Sox? Everyone is stuck on the upcoming event, World Series baseball. There will on only be one team that will go home as World Champions, but who will it be? Chicago White Sox is known to be great hitters, infielders, pitchers, a smarter team overall.…
Final score of that game was 4 to 2. The White Sox catcher was starting to get curious on why the pitcher wasn’t listening to him with signs on what pitch to throw so he went and complained to Gleason after the came: "The sonofabitch! Williams kept crossing me. In that lousy fourth inning, he crossed me three times!…

During the world series on an October evening in 1989, the Giants and Athletics battled for a world title. It was any average play off game in baseball. Lots of excitement, a hostile playing field, and the crowd would cheer over just about anything. Watching the game by himself was Bill Tate, who just got home from a night of work. “It was early in the game, no score yet, when suddenly Al Michaels, the announcer, said ‘What was that?’…
The franchise began in 1901 in Baltimore, Maryland. They competed in their first two years as the Baltimore Orioles. The struggling team was bought in 1903 and moved to New York. They were renamed the New York Highlanders. Sports writers started calling them the yanks or Yankees, and in 1913, they officially changed their name to the Yankees.…
When William was told he couldn't go in he said that the Cubs would never win a World Series ever again. William Sianis and his goat Murphy set the curse on the Cubs in 1908. William ‘billy goat’ Sianis was one of the people who set the curse. Another thing who set the curse was Williams goat, Murphy.…
During the 2013 season, while in the Atlanta Braves organization I worked directly with Marie Spano. I held the position of Low A Strength & Conditioning Coach at the Rome Braves affiliate, and she was the organization’s Minor League Nutritionist. From the first introduction during Spring Training, communication was outstanding. Being that it was her first year working in an MILB capacity, she did have a few eye opening moment/obstacles towards the end of camp, and the first couple of weeks of season. Understanding differences in travel, meal money, clubhouse dues, Clubhouse Managers, and cultural food preferences were all an obvious shock, but Marie communicated openly and never hesitated to ask questions.…
The article I chose to read was Baseball and American Cultural Values, which was written by Ronald Briley. This article talks about how the sport of baseball has related to the American culture for a very long time. Split up into three different sub-sections, Briley explains how teachers can use the sport of baseball as an interesting way to the teach about America. The first section talks about how baseball can be used to teach some important aspects of American history. The second second talks about baseball and its connection with racial issues.…
History of baseball This popular sport was given the name “America’s past time” through the years even though there has been debate for centuries of which land invented this game. The game of baseball has been seen back through history all the way back to 1600s. Abner Doubleday has been said to be the inventor of America’s pastime, but has never been credited with it.…
Baseball has to be one of America’s best pastimes. There are only a hand full of sports that have originated in America, and with that said, baseball has to be one of the most beloved sports we have in today’s time. Baseball has affected young men, men of color, even women and along the way started some club and team rivals. There has been such a love for the sport since it came about. This sport really gives room for competition, family oriented events, and everything in between.…
Wrigley’s was best known for its stick gum brands and was responsible for broadening chewing gums overall appeal due to the development and advertising success of Wrigley’s iconic Spearmint, Juicy Fruit, and Doublemint brands. Even with all the success Wrigley had with stick gum, the growth within the gum industry overall is not large and pellet and tab gums were growing in popularity and offered larger margins for retailers. Wrigley’s attempt to enter the pellet and tab gum market through their latest product Eclipse has been a disappointment. Given the amount of resources and lack of success Wrigley’s executives had doubt the Eclipse brand could ever be successful. Using segmenting, targeting, and positioning to analyze the current product…
Major league baseball's first few weeks have had so many storylines these three guys have been at the top of the list. These are my favorite feel-good stories to start the year because it wasn't just handed to them they've had to go through the grind and uncertainty of life of a baseball player and just shown tenacity and hard work can pay off! Three guys we all can learn from when faced with adversity in all walks of life not just sports. I hope they all continue to have success because they are fun to watch!…
