Mitzi stated that the agency works with people who have disabilities, sexual orientation, gender identity, and different religious practices. She explained that people with disabilities suffer widespread discrimination. As someone working in a social service agency, you have a responsibility to serve all clients. “Many people with developmental disabilities require an innovative range of services to maximize self-determination and pursue an optimal quality of life” (Kirst-Ashman, 2014, p. 510). The key is to coordinate and monitor services so that clients with ongoing and changing needs get their needs met. Kirst-Ashman (2014), stated that advocacy is the key to effecting or initiating change either with or on behalf of client groups.
