A Brief Review Of The Star Spangled Banner

Improved Essays
Have you ever heard the Star Spangled Banner? It’s a moving song. It’s about how America fought for its independence in the Revolutionary War, and how the Continental army fought against Great Britain for independence. At Fort Henry, Great Britain shot off a great deal of cannonballs at the Continental army. Great Britain told the Fort Henry to lower their flag to surrender. George Washington once said, “ The thing that separates christian heart is he will die on his feet before he’ll live on his knees.” When the battle ended, the flag was still up. They didn’t hold the flag up with their hands. They held it up with their bodies. Without that war, America wouldn’t be an independent country.

What are NFL players taking a knee for and what are they gaining from it? This all started with Kaepernick last year who took a knee because of the way African Americans were being treated by police officers and by the community in America. That is understandable to be upset at police officers but it is not okay to take a knee for the National Anthem because if it wasn’t for the people who fought for our freedom and for this nation then we wouldn’t even have the freedom and ability to go through our everyday lives as we do now. So kneeling for the Anthem should not even be a thought in someone’s head or even an option because the flag and this nation was improving and becoming what it is now, before these players were even born.…

During that time, a man named Francis Scott Key saw that their “flag was still there”, and decided to write a great song about it. His piece, “Star-Spangled Banner”, was about his experience in the war, and it soon became the American National Anthem. The “Star-Spangled Banner” is, in my opinion, worthy of being the U.S.A.’s national hymn. Key was first inspired when he saw a battle from a nearby ship. He realized that the American flag was still standing, so he wrote a poem about his experience.…
