As a 5-year old you don’t see the underlying cracks, damages, and tolls that poverty has on a society. You’re born into this living by the rules and circumstances, this treacherous environment sets. Not being able to walk down your neighborhood and having family live in homes with no roofs was just an accepted fact of life. Through the lens of a 5-year-old, it’s all normal cause that’s all he’s known.

She went up north and experienced the stability the rest of the family never had. My uncle part of the bomb squad in the military was in Peru for the concerted effort by the U.S. to educate other allied militaries on bombs. He met my aunt in a restaurant while he was off to get lunch. Quickly they became infatuated with each other and my uncle convinced her to come to the states with him.
